I have nothing to write. I don’t know what to say. Where do I find inspiration to write for my blog?

Have you ever uttered those words? Do you ever get stuck when setting out to create content? Here are a few tips to get you started:

1.  Review the questions your clients frequently ask you. One of the first places to start is with the most prevalent questions from customers and prospects. If you are reaching your target audience and they are asking you the same questions over and over again, then those questions are great for creating content.
2.  Read what industry experts are writing for inspiration. Unless your niche is so isolated that YOU are the only person in the niche, the odds are that your peers are hitting the pulse of your audience with their content. Don’t plagiarize, however, you can look at themes and topics to spark creativity.
3.  Just write. Honestly, you know what to write. It isn’t a lack of inspiration or ideas that keeps you from creating content, it is fear. If you sit down and write every day on one key point or theme in your business, eventually you will find that you are filled with ideas.
4.  Revisit old content. If it was worth writing once, it might be worth rewriting or updating. So many of our topics or themes are definitely wide enough to revisit. Look at it with fresh eyes, new insights, and trends and I’ll bet you can find a way to draw out more from that content.
5.  Give yourself time to do it right. In my experience with clients, part of the issue is that there are a lot of half-baked ideas floating around. Follow through and execution are huge weaknesses when it comes to some small business owners and entrepreneurs. Stop chasing something new and stick with your core business principles and practices. Take the time to develop fully the idea you are putting before you. It is better to have one great blog post a week than four thin, poorly written pieces of crap.
6.  Use curation as a tool. If you have ever reposted or shared something that someone else has written, then that is curation. Sometimes a collection of those posts can make a good blog post. Give your insight into the common themes in 3-5 curated posts. Make sure you provide complete attribution to the authors you are quoting and link your readers to their content as well. Creating content can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. Focus on what your prospects and clients ask you about most, go to your industry for inspiration, just write — consistent creation of content inspires, dust off the cobwebs, take time and curate when inspiration is amiss.
